YHKCC celebrates its 10th Anniversary

YHKCC 10th anniversary celebration started with the sounds of thrills, laughs and live entertainment when the International Fun Fair 2012 set the stage for an unforgettable jam-packed weekend of events.

Celebrating the cross-cultural diversity of YHKCC, the International Fun Fair made history of its own by witnessing the 10th anniversary celebration.  YHKCC was established in 2003 and it has nurtured many students over the past ten years.  Giving students from over 43 different nationalities and cultural backgrounds the opportunity to study in this dynamic international community, the school has quickly gained a reputation as one of the best DSS schools in Hong Kong.

‘Cirque Du YHKCC” was the theme of the occasion, where there was something for everyone, from juggling and clown acts, to peddle cars racing and bouncy castles, to talent show and dances by students.  Visitors were also able to do some shopping at the bazaar and savour cuisines from all over the world including Turkish kebab, Pakistani snacks, French crepes, Chinese noodles and soups, Irish potatoes and many more.

The International Fun Fair kicked off with the traditional lion dance after Mr. Patrick Yip, Vice President, YMCA of Hong Kong dotted the lion’s eyes. Other guests of honour present included the Honourable Mrs. Fanny Law Fan Chiu-fun, GBS, JP; Mr. Tam Yiu-chung, GBS, JP; The Rt. Revd. Andrew Chan Au-Ming, Bishop of the Diocese of Western Kowloon; Ms. Julia Ong, Vice President, YMCA of Hong Kong; Mr. Doug Oxley, Chairman, the School Management Committee; Dr. Alice Yuk, JP, School Supervisor; Mr. Robert Jang, Chairperson of PTA, Mr. Adrian Price, Principal of YHKCC and Mr. Dion Chen, Deputy Principal of YHKCC; and other Members of the School Management Committee.

In her opening address, Mrs. Fanny Law, GBS, JP, said, “YHKCC has proven to be a sought after school among the local and international communities, bringing all cultures to experience and learn from one another. It has greatly represented a successful international school in essence with a DSS logo on its cover.”

The guests of honour were then asked to officiate the Topping-out Ceremony of the Music Block and Promenade that is about to complete in a couple of months’ time .  The two-storey Music Block and Promenade is a hugely exciting project of the school and the construction cost reached HK$26 million.  It is comprised of 2 large music rooms for lessons and practice, and 4 smaller practice rooms for individual and small group music or performance practices. The promenade gives ample space for students to enjoy the open view of ball games in the fields at the back of school, and also leisurely have their lunches or rests when they are free.

Followed by the success of the past few years’ international talent shows, there were two sessions of talent shows this year.  The shows featured dance performances from different countries including China, India, Korea, Italy, Nepal, etc and many talented singers and musicians from different countries showcased a variety of international music and songs to the audience.  What was more, the shows celebrated the multi-cultural student body through a unique YHKCC Ethnic Fashion Cat Walk Show. The shows were well received with full house attendance.

The International Fun Fair was truly a fitting end to the festive season and jubilant atmosphere and will long be an unforgettable memory for the entire school.  This 10th year was full of amazing inspiration, and it was truly a special celebration to see the endless support and empowerment from parents, teachers, students, the local community and the School Sponsoring Body.  YHKCC will continue to provide quality international educational standards, whilst maintaining affordable fees in achieving its mission.
