Back to School Night cum PTA AGM
This year, Back to School Night for parents of students in Forms 1 – 4 parents was held on Friday 15th September, immediately after the PTA Annual General Meeting.
The PTA AGM commenced at 6:00 p.m. in the school hall. Mr. Evans Mendonca, Chairperson of the PTA Executive Committee, presented the PTA Annual Report and Ms. Bee Lui, Treasurer, presented the PTA Financial Report for the 2016-2017 school year.
Seven new parents were elected to PTA Executive Committee: Mr. Ornan Abouhatsira, Ms. Irene Sun, Ms. Roberta Coronetta, Mr. Michael Johnson, Ms. Bee Lui, Mr. Evans Mendonca and Ms. Chong Kwai Fun. In addition, Mr. Evans Mendonca was elected Parent Manager to represent the views of parents on the School Management Committee (SMC). The names will be forwarded to the School and the SMC to be registered with the EDB in due course. Please join us in congratulating the parents above and continue to support PTA events this year!
After enjoying refreshments prepared by Mrs. Anne Roberts Whitman and her team of students, parents returned to the school hall for Back to School Night. The principal, Mr. Dion Chen, reminded parents about the school’s five core values and explained the new CARES principles, which now incorporate the 14 intellectual character dispositions the school aims to develop. Mr. Chen also shared the recent public examination results and highlighted some of the most outstanding achievements.
Parents then attended a series of nine 10-minute lessons to gain a taste of the kind of experiences their children have every day. During each lesson teachers shared their expectations for the year, explained how their subject was taught and gave suggestions about how they support their children’s learning at home.
The feedback received from parents about this event has been very positive, especially the opportunity to meet their child’s subject and class teachers so early in the school year. Parents who were unable to attend can download the Subject Content and Expectations Booklets from the VLE on our school website
