International Fun Fair 2017
The annual International Fun Fair of YMCA of Hong Kong Christian College (YHKCC) was successfully held on the 9th December at the school campus, attracting over 4,500 visitors. Together, we celebrated the school’s 15thAnniversary with fun games, creative activities, food from all over the world and talent shows!
As part of the school’s effort in giving back to the community and living out our core values “serving one another in love”, more than 640 families in need benefited from the complimentary tickets for the matinee show and cash vouchers to enjoy the fair. Every year, our International Fun Fair lends the perfect opportunity to inviting the community to enjoy a day of fun, joy and love together with us. In additional to a fun day, more than 200 goodies bags were also given out this year, to individuals and families in need.
On this festive day, we celebrated cultural diversity, our students’ various talents and the school’s 15th anniversary under the theme “Dare to Dream”. 15 years ago, founders of our school dreamt about starting a Christian educational facility that would provide a safe and budding-learning environment for the Lantau community. 15 years after, we are celebrating the fruit of such dream and would continue to strive for evolution and excellence in the years to come. To commemorate the perseverance and effort of the last 15 years, a special “Tree Planting” ceremony was held during our dedication ceremony. Alumni from each graduating year was invited back to place a heart onto the tree, symbolizing the collaborative effort in forming a strong, loving YHKCC family tree. In addition to the “Tree Planting”, we also had the unveiling of the sculpture “YHKCC 15” led by the Guest of Honour Mr. Benjamin Au, Assistant District Officer (Islands), Home Affairs Department of the HKSAR, together with SMC members, parent and student representatives. This ceremony signifies an important milestone of YHKCC as we brave a new page of our schools’ chapter.
Apart from celebrating the 15th anniversary of the school, the International Fun Fair traditionally embraces cultural diversity and integration, promoting a unified understanding and respect to all the cultures within our community and world. Over 30 booths were set up celebrating the diversity of cultures through food and products as well as fun activities such as Giant Bouncy Castles, student led- creative game booths, Art Gallery, Talent Shows, etc.
The International Talent Shows hit the climax of the day and received the highest accolade. The show introduced the unique characteristics of different cultures and ethnic groups around the world showcasing the talent, creativity and innovation of the students through singing and dancing performances from different countries, including Bangladesh, China, India, Italy, Korea, Philippines, USA, Nepal and many more. Students also demonstrated the school’s value about multi-cultural diversity through a unique YHKCC Ethnic Fashion Show together with the students from the primary school, San Wui Commercial Society YMCA of Hong Kong Christian School. Both shows were well received with full house attendance and enthusiastic support from the audience. The shows showed true collaboration between current students, alumni, parents and teachers and marked the end of our eventful day.
“We will continue to uphold our core values and committed to growing an even bigger, stronger, flourishing canopy for the YHKCC and also be dedicated to outreaching to the community as a whole to build a love and caring Tung Chung community. We look forward to seeing you all next year and the 20th Anniversary to come,” said the Principal, Mr. Dion Chen.
