Art Trip

On 25th October, Ms. King, Ms. Heung and Ms. Simonsen took 53 F4, F5 and F6 Art students to visit the Asia Art Archive (AAA) and the newly renovated Tai Kwun Heritage and Arts Centre.

At AAA, we were talked through the history and importance of the Asia art archive by our guide Samantha. The archive is an amazing resource that is free to the public and invaluable for our art students, especially those embarking on their personal study which makes up 20% of their A Level. We learned how to browse the collection correctly and got to explore the wide selection of books, periodicals, artworks, exhibition brochures and other publications. This is definitely somewhere worth visiting and our trip was very inspiring. We also look forward to having a selection of books at our school as part of the AAA's 'travelling library' scheme.

After lunch we made our way to the newly renovated Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts. The centre was recently redesigned by the iconic Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron. The buildings are beautiful; we were particularly struck by the JC Contemporary block with its striking facade and wonderful concrete, spiral staircase! We managed to see some contemporary Asian art, many students located artists that they could link to their projects back at school. Experiencing art first hand in gallery spaces cannot be replicated and all the students look forward to having many more such excursions throughout the year.
