Science Week
The Science Week was held for all students from 6th to 9th May. Various science activities were arranged to enable students explore the mystery of Science and arouse their interest and curiosity in learning Science too.
The followings are the highlights of the Science Week:
Chemistry Activity
In the first activity on 6th May, students conducted a micro-scale electrolysis experiment under the supervision of Chemistry teachers. The experiment is related to electrolysis of dilute sulfuric acid and also the testing for oxygen gas and hydrogen gas. Students had fun doing the experiment which consolidated the science knowledge they have learnt in the IS and chemistry lessons.
The second experiment was the “magical solutions”. There are acid-base reaction and also redox reactions involved in this experiment. It was a very eye-catching demonstration because of the distinct colour changes which took place when reactions happened.
Physics Activity
On the second day of the Science Week on 7th May, a physics activity of hologram pyramid illusion was carried out. Images from i-pads were projected onto pyramids made of transparent plastic to create a 3D-like illusion for the viewer and made an image or video appear as if it were floating in midair.
The principle works as follows: Four symmetrically opposite variations of the same image are projected onto the four faces of the pyramid. By principle, each side projects the image falling on it to the center of the pyramid. These projections work in unison to form a whole figure, which creates a 3D illusion. Students felt amazed by the activity.
Biology activity
On 8th May, both science teachers and students experienced augmented reality (AR) technology in learning Biology. AR is a new technology that integrates real-world environment with computer generated perceptual information. It enhances natural environments and offers perceptually enriched experiences to learners. With the help of AR technology, learning biological systems becomes more interactive and digitally manipulable. We are excited to experience how AR is transforming the world of education and are eager to bring AR experiences to the Biology classrooms!
Integrated Science Activity
Water Rocket competition
This year, our Form 2 integrated science students designed water rockets based on their knowledge and understanding of forces and aerodynamics. Students showed great enthusiasm in the preparation work and designed their water rockets. On the fourth day of the science week, during lunch time, the best performing teams from the form brought their modified water rocket for the final competition. The distance travelled by each rocket was measured and awards were presented to students as follows:

Energy converter presentation
On the same day after school, different teams of F.1 students gathered after school to exhibit their designed energy converters. The students applied their knowledge about energy conversion and have demonstrated high level of creativity in their work. It was a wonderful opportunity for students in different classes to present their work and learn from one another.
Students proactively participated in the activities with great fun. All in all, the science week is a wonderful week for all of us to have a better understanding about the importance of science in daily life.
