First Aid Workshop for the elderly
On 22nd November, a First Aid Workshop, the first activity held by the YHKCC - OIWA Elder Academy was conducted at the campus. Our school nurse, Ms. Wilda Lam together with our students from the Community Service Club explained and demonstrated basic first aid tips to the elderly for their well-being.
All the buddies enjoyed the interactive workshop and actively participated in the practice. Moreover, the workshop provided a good platform to create a strong bond between the youth and the elderly in the community. The YHKCC - OIWA Elder Academy will continue to run a variety of activities for the elderly to sustain life-long learning and inter-generational harmony.
The Elder Academy Scheme was jointly launched by the Labour and Welfare Bureau (LWB) and the Elderly Commission (EC) in early 2007 to encourage schools and non-governmental organisations to join hands in operating Elder Academies so as to provide more learning platforms for elders, thereby enabling them to pursue a healthy and active retirement life through lifelong learning. This year, our school cooperated with OIWA to establish the YHKCC - OIWA Elder Academy with the objective to promote continuous learning for elderly people, active ageing and inter-generational harmony in a school setting so as to foster their well-being, both physically and mentally. Students are encouraged to actively participate in the meaningful voluntary work in the Elder Academy, such as acting as young teachers and assisting in the operation of the Elder Academy.
