Sustainable Trees Conservation Project
This year, our School joined a sustainable trees conservation project organized by the Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (HACTL). The HACTL group has kindly donated three Eucalyptus trees to our School, finding a better growing environment than the rooftop of Super Terminal 1.
The trees were successfully transplanted to our school campus and some of the tree debris was recycled as substrate for the growth of mushrooms when combined with coffee grounds and other recycled materials. A group of Biology students and junior form science students took this opportunity to set up a mini-greenhouse in our school. They tested out the growing conditions of mushrooms using the recycled materials as substrate. Fortunately, our students managed to grow some mushrooms in the mini-greenhouse.
It was a great learning experience for our students to participate in the conservation project and gain a better understanding about Eucalyptus trees and the growth of mushrooms. We are all delighted to see the rebirth of Eucalyptus trees in our school campus and the spread of environmental protection and conservation messages among our students and also in the community.
