Junior Biotech Workshop
The STEM Club invited a group of junior form students to take part in the Junior Form Biotech workshop so as to experience a taster workshop on the Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) programme, where they learnt and practiced basic, yet essential biotech lab skills.
Although students were not practising with real DNA samples, they learnt how to transfer food dye using micropipettes with different calibers ranging from 2 to 200µl. This workshop equipped them with the necessary skills to perform gel electrophoresis, Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCR) and many other techniques performed by professional researchers.
Students had fun and sharpened their lab skills through practising micropipetting techniques with coloured food dye, first on a laminate sheet, then to agarose gel. We hope that these students will continue to explore in Biotechnology and make contributions to the world of Biotechnology in the future!
