Graduation Ceremony 2010-2011
The school’s Graduation Ceremony for Form 7 students was held on 28 May this year. The Honourable Mr. Michael Tien, BBS, JP, and The Most Rev. Dr. Peter Kwong, Archbishop Emeritus of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, were invited as the Guests-of-Honour. Mr. Doug Oxley, Mr. Ben Lam, respectively the Chairman and Supervisor of the School Management Committee; Mr. Evans Mendonca, Chairman of the Parents-Teachers Association of the school; Dr. Nick Miller, Principal; and Mr. Dion Chen, Head of School Administration were the platform party.
Our principal, Dr. Miller, shared his joy and happiness with the graduates and their parents in this remarkable occasion. He emphasized that he was proud of their achievement in these years, and the school development as a whole.
Dr. Miller stressed that the school is to provide the best learning environment for students. Plans are underway to build extra facilities to enhance students’ learning in different areas. A Fine Arts Centre on the 7/Floor will be completed before the summer. The school will start to build a Music and Fitness/PE Block with a promenade overseeing the Grass Field, and a Theatre Arts/Multi-purpose Hall above the second floor Hall. These facilities shall be completed in about one and a half years. Rooms will be converted to smaller classrooms for small class teaching on the second and sixth floors. All these, together with a more diversified curriculum, have been attracting more and better students and parents to the school. This year, Form 1 places have been over-subscribed by 100%.
The Hon. Mr. Michael Tien, BBS, JP, was there to speak and present certificates and awards to graduates. In his speech to graduates, he spoke of his experience as a secondary student in HK, and how he could build up his self-esteem and confidence by doing something he could be good at when he had had the chance to study in USA. He encouraged our students to try new things where their passion leads. He believes that everybody can be successful in some areas, and that success will breed confidence and meaning to the person pursuing in the endeavour.
Students also celebrated this jubilant event with music performances, including strings performance, praise band performance, choir, orchestra ensemble, cello solo and a Broadway style musical, the Music Man.
Besides the graduates and teachers, the Ceremony was well-attended by more than 400 parents and friends.
