Back to School Nights (13th and 19th September 2012)
This year, the Back to School Nights were held on Thursday evening, 13thSeptember, for Forms 1-4 parents and on Wednesday evening the following week (19th September) for Forms 5-6, A1 and A2 parents. Altogether around 460 parents came to meet with teachers about their children’s learning at school.
For the first evening, parents were given a briefing about the Life-Wide-Learning Camps. Staff from the organizers came to the school to explain and introduce the different activities that will take place in the Life-Wide Learning Camps from 24th to 26th October. Staring the main part of the event, Mr. Adrian Price, our Principal, introduced himself to the parents and also his belief in the importance of good relationships between the school, parents and students. He stressed that open communication between the parties is essential to the success of students’ learning and school life at school and maybe even at home. He will listen to any suggestions from parents and they can come and talk to him at anytime they find convenient.
Lessons of the evenings started with Class Teacher Periods at 6:55pm and parents met with class and subject teachers in different classrooms for subjects such as English, Mathematics, Chinese, French, Sciences, History, Geography, Economics, Business Studies, PE, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, etc. Each “lesson” was 10 minutes and in the lessons teachers explained to parents how their subject was taught, what was expected in the syllabuses, what was expected of students in the subject and how parents might help in their children’s work at home. Parents were also able to “experience” how students move from one lesson to another during the 5-minute period changing time.
Many parents appreciated that the school had organized this event and provided opportunities for them to learn of how and what their children had been experiencing at school in the first couple of weeks of the school term. They had nice and positive comments about the school and how teachers had been working with their children. In both evenings, parents left the school at about 8:45pm in confidence knowing that their children have been put in safe hands of dedicated teachers
