Biology Department activities

On Wednesday 5th December, the Science Department held several Biology related activities: Virtual Rat Dissection ChallengeDNA Necklace Workshopand Poster Presentation.

The Virtual Rat Dissection Challenge was held during lunch time at the Science Corner. Students needed to complete virtual rat dissection on the ipad within a designated time. Both junior and senior form students worked very hard to beat others' records by getting familiar with the rat's internal structure and the dissection procedures.

On the other side at the Science Corner, some Form 4 students were presenting the ecology posters. By participating in this activity, students can build up their confidence in communicating scientific concepts that are related to the society and environment. In addition, the activity also aimed at raising other students' awareness of the human impact to the environment.

On the same day after school, there were about 30 students from different forms joining the DNA Necklace Workshop. In this workshop, students learnt how to extract their own DNA by an non-invasive method. They learnt  some cell biology, genetics and DNA extraction method. At the end of the day, they stored their very unique DNA into tiny vials and turned them into necklaces as souvenirs.
