A visit from Mr. Eddie Ng, SBS, JP, Secretary for Education

It is our great honour to have Mr. Eddie Ng, SBS, JP, Secretary for Education, visiting our school on 10th May.  Mr. Ng has previously expressed interest to understand more of our school of its uniqueness among the DSS schools in Hong Kong and we were particularly pleased that we could have the opportunity to explain to him the different aspects of our school and to show him the school in action in this afternoon.   Mr. Ng was accompanied by Mr. Roger Cheung and Mr. L. Ling, the School Development Officers (Islands) of EDB.  Mr. David Wong, President of YMCA of Hong Kong, Dr. Aldrin Leung, General Secretary of YMCA of Hong Kong, Mr. Douglas Oxley, Chairman of School Management Committee (SMC) and other SMC members were at school to welcome and accompany Mr. Ng during the tour of the school.

Mr. Wong warmly welcomed and thanked Mr. Ng for his visit.  Dr. Alice Yuk, JP, School Supervisor, impressed upon the guests the vision and mission of YHKCC.  She further pointed out that it is now the “dream” of YMCA of Hong Kong to establish a primary school in the area to provide more primary school places allowing a through-train education to the children in Hong Kong, especially for the Lantau and nearby communities.  She also expressed her sincere gratitude to all SMC members and especially Mr. Benjamin Lam for his dedication in construction of the Music Block.  The Acting Principal, Mr. Dion Chen, spoke briefly introducing the 10 year history and background, curriculum, international student profile and other characteristics of the school.

Guests then toured around the school, and visited the newly built Music Block and Promenade overlooking the tranquil and picturesque environment on and around the campus.  Mr. Ng then met with teachers and students.  Mr. Ng has great interest in our students’ achievements in different areas of their school lives, such as in sport, community services, art, etc.  He was impressed by our students’ all-round attainment.

The afternoon ended with two gracious groups of cheerleaders and drum line students performing a stunt and drum music to say goodbye to Mr. Ng and other guests.

It is hoped that in the next 10th anniversary, YMCA of Hong Kong and YHKCC can achieve its mission in providing a quality international style education to the local and expatriate communities, as well as a through-train education to children in Hong Kong.
