Peruvian Music Workshop
On 14th January, we had the honour to have Ms. Ivonne Paredes, a composer/ percussionist from New York, hosting a Peruvian music workshop for our students. Ms. Paredes is currently a graduate student at Brooklyn College and is keen on applying her Peruvian heritage to her compositions.
Our students enjoyed learning her Peruvian inspired piece, Festejo, despite much effort had to be used to tackle the complex compound rhythm including syncopation and triplets! The piece was adapted to perform with flute, percussion (cajon, claves & Djembes), guitar, electric bass and keyboards. After the performance, there was a valuable sharing session between Ms. Paredes and the students. We look forward to performing more of her compositions in the near future.
