Back to school night (F.1 - F.4) cum PTA AGM

This year, the Back to School Night for Forms 1 – 4 parents was held on Thursday, 11th September, after the PTA Annual General Meeting held earlier also on the same evening.

Parents were able to meet with teachers and had refreshment before they actually went to different “lessons” which started at 7:25pm. Mr. Dion Chen, Principal of the school, introduced to parents the mission and vision of the school and strategies to achieve them. He stressed that open communication between the parties is essential to the success of students’ learning and school life.

Lessons of the evenings started with Class Teacher Periods at 7:25pm and parents met with class and subject teachers in different classrooms for subjects such as English, Mathematics, Chinese, French, Sciences, History, Geography, Economics, Business Studies, PE, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, etc. Each “lesson” was 10 minutes and in the lessons teachers explained to parents how their subject was taught, what was expected in the syllabuses, what was expected of students in the subject and how parents might help in their children’s work at home. Parents were also able to “experience” how students move from one lesson to another during the 5-minute period changing time. Each parent was given a booklet containing the basic information of subject contents, expectations and teachers’ contact information.

Many parents appreciated that the school had organized this event and provided opportunities for them to know the teachers who teach their children, and got to ask some questions about teaching and learning in the subjects. They had nice and positive comments about the school and how teachers had been working with their children. Parents left the school at about 9:15pm in confidence knowing that their children have been put in good hands of dedicated teachers.

Parents who have not come to the event can download the Subject Contents and Expectations Booklets from the VLE on our school website (www.ymcacc.edu.hk).
