Beach cleaning activity
During the mid-term break on 30th October, a group of enthusiastic YHKCC students from the Green Club and Community Service Club signed up for a Beach Cleanup activity in Tung Chung . This activity was organized by a charitable NGO called the Plastic Free Seas in collaboration with ecology experts from World Wildlife Fund, Hong Kong (WWF) and Ocean Park Conservation Fund, Hong Kong.
At the beginning of the activity, our students were educated with the ecology of mangrove and mudflat and the importance of conservation of the Tung Chung habitats as there are many marine life including two species of horseshoe crabs (the living fossils) living in this community! That's why it is so important to keep Hong Kong seas clean.
At the end of the day, our students worked together to remove all the foams, abandoned fish nets, and other plastic waste on the beach. These are regarded as the potential threat to marine life in the habitat. Our students all enjoyed participating in this meaningful activity and had learnt a lot about ecology and habitat conservation. It is believed that this group of students will become the pioneers to promote environmental protection at our school and the seed of our School's Environmental Education and Development!
