Congratulations to the English Debate Club
The English Debate Club is experiencing more success with its Seniors, Alisha Nalbo (5K), Miko Taike (5C) and Emma Aston (5C) winning a hard-fought debate against the Band 1 EMI Tuen Mun Government Secondary School. The debate, held in Tuen Mun, featured the motion that HK should be more concerned with economic stability than with universal suffrage, a key issue for the Liberal Studies syllabus.
Our debaters, arguing against the motion excelled with extemporaneous speech making, strong rebuttal by each speaker, often integrated into their own arguments. Mr Moriarty, the teacher in charge of the Debate Club and Ms. Stacey Spillane, the team advisor were thrilled with the debate and the standard of the debaters, saying he had not seen a stronger and more focused opposition and it was a credit to our debaters to come away with the win.
The victory also won the team a place in the Finals Round for the New Territories West division of the HK Secondary Schools Debating Competition.
Let’s join in congratulating the team.
