Form 5 Liberal Studies Field Trip
Form 5 Liberal Studies Field Trip was held on 22nd April and “Struggle for Survival” was the theme this year. This simulation put students into the shoes of those in poverty. Students, assigned to various family units, must work out an existence by making paper bags out of newspaper and home-made glue. Each family must earn enough to pay for the rent, food, sanitation, medical needs. If they were fortunate to earn more than basic needs, one of their family members would receive education. Those failed to make it would end up in the hands of a loan shark. This simulation gave participants challenges and chances to experience the intricacy of the poverty web.
“This is my first year of teaching and I am glad to join the field trip with all our F.5 DSE students. I really enjoyed the time with the fully engaged students during the simulation activity and saw students put down their identity and dignity to experience the life of poverty. It is indeed a valuable opportunity for our students to develop a sympathetic heart and a better understanding about the less fortunate via this trip.” said Ms Annie Poon, Field Trip Coordinator.
