Fundraising events for Nepal Earthquake

A powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal on the 25th of April, leaving more than 8,000 people dead and injured more than twice the number. With many of the villages flattened, thousands of families were forced homeless, along with many of the historical monuments and old buildings wrecked.

As one of the core values of YHKCC is the building a community that cares, the Student Council and the Community Service Club took the initiative and worked on various events in response to Nepal’s tragic catastrophe. A casual dress day (dress code: red, blue, white) was organized on 30th of April, along with a bake sale consisting of desserts and Nepalese cuisine. Two notice boards were designed by the students, including an informative board which showed the background information about the earthquake designed by 5A students, and a “Filled with Love” message board written by students and parents to show their support in response to the tragedy. A total of HKD 23,540 was raised by the YHKCC community over the course of the week.

On 7th May, the Student Council and the Music Society co-organized a Nepal Relief concert, aimed at   extending their love and support not only to the Nepalese community within YHKCC, but towards everyone as a whole. The concert comprised of the Music Department performances, prayers, sharing, and a video.

The Nepal relief events were an accomplishment, showing our community’s compassion and empathy towards the calamity in Nepal. Poignant touching feeling was filled throughout the event, which echoed that we are “A community that cares”.
