HSMC Symposium on Sustainability and Bamboo
On the 19th of July, 2015, the Hang Seng Management College in Sha Tin held a symposium on sustainability and Bamboo. The opening ceremony took place under the presence of the honorable Mrs. Carrie Lam, the Chief Secretary for Administration, The HKSAR Government and Professor Wang Li-Bing, Programme Coordinator, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization – Asia-Pacific Programme of Educational Innovation for Development. Five of the current Form Five students attended this seminar which took place from 9:00am to 5:30pm. We, along with students from other secondary schools and tertiary institutions, guest speakers and some students from the United States were whole-heartedly welcomed to the event by Professor Simon Ho, President of the Hang Seng Management College.
The seminar consisted of four different panel discussions with an interactive question and answer session at the end of each discussion. This symposium was very informative as it gave many students a unique perspective on sustainable resources and its uses, climate change, constructing green buildings along with the past and the present usage of bamboo. Bamboo signifies strength and stability and it was discussed how bamboo can be used for different purposes and how bamboo may be able to replace other resources like timber.
“I believe that attending such a seminar is quite useful in our school life and also for our future, as it helps us gain a wider and much better, in-depth understanding of this topic. I highly encourage other students to take more opportunities and learn about varied topics. “said Sneha Hotchandani (5Y), one of the participants of the programme.
