The International Fun Fair was successfully concluded with rounds of applause on 12th December at the school campus, attracting over 4,000 visitors celebrating together with great fun and exhilaration. Over 30 food and bazaar booths were set up at the campus and more than 570 less well-off children and their parents benefited from the complimentary tickets for the afternoon show and cash vouchers they received. Our school is dedicated to helping the people in-need every year and enthusiastic to bring joy and love to the entire community which echoes our Core Values “Serve One another in Love”.
With the theme “The Timeless Clock” this year, we celebrated the cultural diversity of our school and promoted the importance of cultural integration and respect. A Culture Zone, organized by various NGOs together with YHKCC students, was set up to introduce the unique characteristics of different cultures and ethnic groups in the community. It provided a valuable opportunity for all to build a harmonious and care community. There were striking activities for all ages, with Fabulous Ethnic Foods, Bazaar & Face Painting, Photo-taking with Ponies, Bouncy Castle, Inflatables, Art Fair, Rugby Games, Football Friendlies and a wide variety of game booths and Talent Shows.
Mr. Anthony Li, JP, District Officer (Islands), Home Affairs Department of the HKSAR, was present as the Guest of Honour at the Dedication Ceremony together with Mrs. Sheila Chuang; Mr. Peter Ho, School Supervisor; SMC members, parent and student representatives as well as Mr. Dion Chen, Principal, to officiate at the ceremony and then joined a traditional Spanish fun activity -- the “Piñata”.
The International Talent Shows hit the climax of the day and received the highest accolade. It was a show of colours, costumes, talent, creativity and innovation, featuring dance performances and martial arts demonstration from different countries, including Bangladesh, China, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Philippines, USA, Nepal and many more. Many talented student singers and musicians from different countries performed a variety of international music and songs. Students also demonstrated the school’s value about multi-cultural diversity through a unique YHKCC Ethnic Fashion Cat Walk. The shows were well received with full house attendance and fascinating ambience.
On the food booth plaza, visitors were able to savour cuisines from all over the world, such as Irish potatoes, Italian pizzas, Japanese oden, Korean noodles, Chinese dumplings, Christmas cookies, etc. The visitors enjoyed the food while listening and watching a variety of music and dance performances on the ground floor. They could also have their shopping spree in the bazaar area or watch the impressive football friendly matches in the fields.
‘YHKCC International Fun Fair was held for the 9th Year, I hope that the magnificent and meaningful event will reach out to the wider Tung Chung community and become a “landmark” multi-cultural fiesta in Lantau. In this way, we can share our love and care to build A Global Community that Cares. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all the guests, volunteers, sponsors and participants for their support for the event over the years. We look forward to seeing you all next year” said the Principal, Mr. Dion Chen.
