Participation in the City Forum organised by RTHK

On 7th February, our Chinese teachers Ms. Kit Ng and Mr. Curtis Chu led 16 students from F.3 to F.6 to participate in the ‘City Forum’ (城市論壇) organized by the Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK). ‘City forum’ is a public forum held every Sunday. The forum brings together politicians, academics and prominent public figures to discuss current issues. The participation serves as a meaningful learning opportunity for students to enhance their Chinese language skills, enrich their knowledge about public affair, develop their critical thinking skills and get a better understanding about current social issues.

The topic of the forum on the day was ‘How the termination of ATV’s license affects the public’s rights?’ The speakers included Mr. Jeff Wong (Senior Manager, PR & Publicity, ATV), Ms. Grace Leung (Lecturer, School of Journalism and Communication, CUHK), Mr. Charles Peter Mok (Member, Legislative Council (Information Technology)) and Mr. Philip Ching (Employee, ATV). Our students received the topic a day before the event and had to prepare it in a very short period of time. During the forum, Iris Ng in F.5 and Lee Kit Chun in F.6 asked questions and expressed their opinion in front of the public. They all gained a very good experience and were able to build their confidence in public speaking in Chinese.
