HKYAF “Arts in the Park Mardi Gras”

On the weekend of the 12th and 13th November, artwork created by students was displayed in Victoria Park.  The art display was part of the HKYAF “Arts in the Park Mardi Gras” which is one of Hong Kong's largest and most vibrant annual community arts events.

Last year, over 150,000 visitors took part in this incredible celebration of the arts. Our students have worked after school for a month creating paintings inspired by the theme “Flora and Fauna”.  The canvases were designed by the Art Society student leaders and these students led after school sessions, teaching the junior students painting skills, in order to create 70 colourful canvases. Their work was displayed alongside 18 other schools in Victoria Park and was viewed by thousands of visitors.

As part of this event, three senior students attended a Q & A session with the world-renowned British primatologist, Dr Jane Goodall on 11th November. Known for her committed field-work and study of chimpanzees, Dr Jane Goodall has dedicated her life to conservation and animal welfare issues.  Students had a better understanding about the importance of protecting our environment and have incorporated this concept into their GCE A-Level coursework.
