International Fun Fair 2016 - a Resounding Success
The International Fun Fair of YMCA of Hong Kong Christian College (YHKCC) was successfully concluded with rounds of applause on 10th December at the school campus, attracting over 4,500 visitors celebrating together with great fun and exhilaration. Over 30 food and bazaar booths were set up at the campus and more than 640 less well-off children and their parents benefited from the complimentary tickets for the afternoon show and cash vouchers they had received. More than 140 goodies bags were given out to needy individual and families giving warm wishes and support. Our school is dedicated to helping the people in need every year and enthusiastic in bringing joy and love to the entire community which echoes our Core Values “Serve One another in Love”.
With the theme “Amazing Air Balloon Ride”, we celebrated the cultural diversity of our school and promoted the importance of cultural integration and respect. Striking activities included Crazy Obstacle Run Inflatable, Bouncy Castles, Game Booths, Food Plaza, Bazaar Area, Art Gallery, Photo-taking with Ponies, Football Friendlies and also International Talent Shows were organized to introduce the unique characteristics of different cultures and ethnic groups in the community. It provided a valuable opportunity for all to build a harmonious and caring community.
Ms. Belinda Chong, Assistant District Officer (Islands), Home Affairs Department of the HKSAR, was present as the Guest of Honour at the Dedication Ceremony together with SMC members, parent and student representatives as well as Mr. Dion Chen, Principal, to officiate at the ceremony after the spectacular marching band, beat club and Lion Dance performance. The party then joined a traditional Spanish fun activity -- the “Piñata”.
The International Talent Shows hit the climax of the day and received the highest accolade. It was an 80-min around the world show of colours, costumes, talent, creativity and innovation. The shows featured dance and singing performances, martial arts demonstration from different countries, including Bangladesh, China, India, Italy, Korea, Philippines, USA, Nepal and many more. Many talented student singers and musicians from different countries performed a variety of international music and songs. Students also demonstrated the school’s value about multi-cultural diversity through a unique YHKCC Ethnic Fashion Cat Walk. The shows were well received with full house attendance and fascinating ambience.
On the food booth plaza, visitors were able to savour cuisines from all over the world, such as Irish potatoes, Turkey Kebabs, Italian pizzas, Japanese oden, Korean noodles, Chinese dumplings, Christmas cookies, etc. The visitors enjoyed the food while listening and watching a variety of music and dance performances on the ground floor. They could also have their shopping spree in the Bazaar Area or watch the impressive football friendly matches in the fields.
“The magnificent and meaningful YHKCC International Fun Fair has become a “landmark” fiesta in the community. We are dedicated to giving blessings and love to the community so as to uphold our core values. Let’s work together to build a caring and harmonious Tung Chung community.
