HKDSE & GCE Information Evening (F.3 & F.4)
On Friday 6th January, parents and students attended an Information Evening at the school to learn more about the curriculum choices in Forms 5 and 6. The YHKCC has two options for senior students -- the Hong Kong Stream (leading to the HKDSE qualification) or the International Stream (leading to GCE A-levels). The differences between the two curricula were explained and Mr. Higgins outlined various reasons why parents and students should consider both streams.
As a general guide, the school recommends the Hong Kong Stream for students who are sure that they will continue their studies in Hong Kong and the International Stream for students who plan to study overseas. The main reason for this is that 80% of the university places in Hong Kong are allocated to students who have studied the local curriculum. Both qualifications, however, can be used for university applications worldwide as they are accepted in Hong Kong and overseas.
Following the main presentation in the hall, parents and students attended a series of short presentations given by teachers to find out more about the HKDSE and/or GCE A-level elective subjects choices in Forms 5 and 6.
Applications for Hong Kong Stream or the International Stream are open until Monday 6th February.
