Chinese Culture Week
From 23rd to 26th January 2017, the Chinese department held a Chinese Culture Week aimed at celebrating the Chinese New Year and nourishing the learning environment with Chinese festive elements.
23rd Jan - Fingerprinting
Students were invited to make their fingerprints on top of the Chinese characters “Chun”(春,Spring), “Fu”(福, Fortune) and the Chinese Zodiac, the Rooster, to mark a good beginning of a new year.
24th Jan - Lantern Riddles
Lantern Riddle is one of the traditional activities at Chinese New Year. Students were enthusiastic in solving the riddles, and they were rewarded with delicious traditional Chinese snacks such as crispy dumpling (Kok Chai). .
25th Jan - Traditional Chinese Cosplay
Students dressed in different costumes from different dynasties to take photos in different postures and greeted the Chinese New Year. They could select one photo they liked best for free as a souvenir.
26th Jan - Greeting the God of Wealth
Students greeted the God of Wealth with Chinese blessings, and received gold coins (chocolate) in return. Everyone was delighted and the campus was full of New Year atmosphere.
During the Chinese Culture week, many students participated in “Fai Chun”(揮春)writing and did Papercutting (剪纸) in their lessons. They learnt numerous Chinese blessing phrases and had great fun. Students were fully indulged in the activities during the week and had better understanding of the Chinese tradition.
