Putonghua Immersion Programme in Shimen, China

During the Easter Holiday from 14th to 17th April, 20 students and two teachers went to Shimen in China for a Putonghua Immersion Programme organized by the Chinese Department. We were all warmly welcomed by the students and teachers in Shimen Middle School there.

Each of our students was paired with “a buddy” from Shimen Middle School. During the visit, our students experienced a wide range of fruitful programmes including Chinese handicraft, calligraphy, Kung Fu and Lion Dance lessons. Our students not only had a better understanding about the cultural differences between Southern China and Hong Kong but also experienced different teaching and learning approaches through classroom learning there. Moreover, our students were able to build up strong bonding with their buddies through effective communication in both Putonghua and English.

It was an authentic and fruitful learning experience and all the students look forward to participating in another Immersion programme next year.
