Music Contest 2016-2017
The annual Music Contest was successfully concluded on 31st March. A marathon of events was started last October with promotion performances by music enthusiasts and last year’s winners at lunchtimes. With this year’s theme of Dare to Dream, a promotion video was directed by Kevin Diego (4M) with involvement of some staff and students. These attracted talented YHKCC musicians to sign up for various categories of the Music Contest, including vocal solo, group, instrumental, band and House.
After the Preliminary and Semi-final, only the best seven soloists, three groups, four instrumentalists and two bands were selected by the Music Department to compete in the Final on 31st March. The adjudicators included our honorable guest, Ms Jessica Ng, a professional opera singer; Ms Anne Whitman and Ms Lorraine Chow. The Contest was presented sleekly with humour by the MCs: Juana Sarenas (4H), Eugene Santos (5M), Jenny Suen (5C) and Manav Mendonca (5K).
All the contestants dazzled the adjudicators and audience with extraordinary performances. As always, the four Houses amazed the audience with their creative mashups and choreography which demonstrated perfect teamwork. The audience cheered the performers and voted for their favourite per category in the Audience Choice Award.
We would like to thank all the parties involved: House teachers, MCs, the backstage, lighting and sound crew, photographers and student helpers to make this Contest a success. Well done to all performers who had dared to dreamand worked their way to shine on stage with their music. Please join in congratulating all the winners. The results are as follows:
