The Student Wellbeing and Student Support Teams work together closely to enable students to achieve their potential; they ensure a nurturing learning environment and provide students with appropriate support and challenge.
We place high importance on providing high-quality pastoral care. Our pastoral care provision is augmented by the services of Special Educational Needs teachers, an Educational Psychologist, a Youth Counsellor and School Social Workers.
Our teams work with students, parents and staff to help the individuals within our community be successful, both academically and in terms of their own personal development.
While teaching and re-enforcing discipline is an integral part of our role, it is a means to an end rather than an end itself. Our ultimate aim is to work to guide and develop strong, resilient young people; equipped and prepared for the challenges of the 21st century.
Well-qualified and Dedicated teaching staff
We have highly committed teaching staff who are dedicated to enabling students to unleash their potential. Heads of Year (HoY) are responsible for the pastoral care and development of students in each form. They plan and work together to provide students with a variety of meaningful learning experiences.
The teacher/student ratio is approximately 1: 8.5 All YHKCC teachers are university graduates and 46% possess master’s qualifications. Over 40% of the teachers are from overseas including the UK, USA, Canada, Ireland, France, Spain, Japan, India, South Korea, Australia, Nigeria and The Philippines. Our teachers believe in ‘lifelong learning’ and the comprehensive Professional Development Programme provides a framework for all teachers to continually upgrade their professional pedagogical skills. This includes elements such as peer observation and collaborative lesson planning.
