School Curriculum

All subjects in our school are taught in English (except second languages). We offer both international curriculum – IGCSEĀ curriculum and UK GCE ‘A’ Level, and theĀ Hong KongĀ curriculum leading to the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE). Ā In Form 3 and 4 students can take IGCSEs ‘on top’ of the HKDSE curriculum. Ā In Forms 4, 5 and 6 students canĀ apply to studyĀ eitherĀ HKDSE curriculum orĀ UK GCE ‘A’ Levels.

Form 1 – Form 2 School-Based Curriculum

Students in Forms 1 and 2 follow a school-based curriculum with a broad range of subjects. Its aims to ensure that students experience a balanced range of courses and have access to a wide variety of teaching and learning styles. The core subjects of Chinese, English and Mathematics have smaller sets so that students can receive more individual support.

Students starting in Form 1 can study local Chinese or Adapted Chinese as a second language. Local Chinese is for students who have already studied the local Chinese curriculum for 6 years or more. Adapted Chinese (taught in Putonghua with Simplified Chinese Characters) is for students who have very little or no background in the Chinese Language.

The junior secondary curriculum comprises the following areas of study:

01

Languages

02

Mathematics

03

Science

04

Personal & Social Education

05

Other Learning Experiences

Form 3 – Form 4 Integrated Curriculum

The majority of the subjects offered in Forms 3 and 4 combine the content of the local curriculum and the IGCSE syllabuses. Since there is a high degree of overlap between the two, this ā€œintegratedā€ curriculum provides all students with the opportunity to both fulfill the requirements of the Hong Kong curriculum and also study a range of IGCSE subjects, and thus obtain some additional international qualifications.

Form 5 – Form 6 Hong Kong Curriculum / UK GCE 'A' Level Curriculum

During Forms 5 and 6 students will either continue with the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) for a further two years, or start GCE Advanced Level (‘A’ Level) courses.

Students in senior forms also study Personal & Social Education, Physical Education, Philosophy & Religious Studies and Other Learning Experiences.

The diversified HKDSE curriculum is designed to allow students of different aptitudes, needs and abilities to reach their potential.Ā  This is the main path for students in Hong Kong to get into local universities.Ā  It is also widely accepted overseas.

GCE Advanced Level (‘A’ Level) is an internationally benchmarked qualification, taken in over 125 countries.Ā  As one of the most recognized qualifications around the world, GCE ‘A’ levels are accepted as proof of academic ability for entry to universities worldwide, including the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. As such, it is the preferred route for students wishing to pursue further education overseas.
